I have been taking this for 4 weeks now for anxiety, insomnia and ultimately depression. I have been off work for 2 months (I am a teacher). I feel alot better but due to the nature of my work, nowhere near ready to go back. I sleep really well but feel a bit 'dazed' during the day. I also slur my speech a little and feel that I am staring into space quite alot, partiularly when taking to people. I don't feel especially anxious, unless I think about going back to work!, but do feel quite nervous most of the time. This is not like my real self but is better than my lowest self.
My question is this , can I expect to feel better than I do now if I continue to take this medication or do I now feel as good as it gets? Has any body else experience with this med? How long does it take to get back to normal or am I expecting too much?
Any comments re~: experience would be welcomed.

Hi,My parent are teachers, I hear the stories, I feel for you! :(
Anyways, I did take Remeron for a while and it
did help my insomnia greatly. It also made me a bit anxious during
the day, which was why I discontinued it. I think it is really
difficult to predict how medicines may adjust to your body over
time; you're still at the point where you may get used to the
medicine a bit better.I will point out 1 tid bit about Remeron. It is a pretty strong
anti-histamine. This can cause drowsiness and cognitive
issues.Anyways, I have a couple of thoughts.
1) try maintaining the Remeron dose.
add a stimulant like Provigil during the day.
Provigil helps with cognition and as a stimulant
is generally benign with regards for anxiety.2) maybe add on an SSRI? (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor)
you could pick from Zoloft,Celexa etc.
This is more of a crapshoot. You could lower the
Remeron dose and add some anti-depressant punch
with the SSRI. You might get some different SSRI
side effects. This is a trade off you would be
making. Its not unheard of to combine Remeron with
and SSRI, in fact the combo may have more anti-depressant
punch than the Remeron alone.Good luck!

Hi there,
Have more than a little empathy here for you I must say- my depression/anxiety reached new depths whilst teaching, and having tried an abundance of meds., zispin was the first to make any positive impact at all.
I reacted quite badly to it at first (but I was in a pretty bad state following a breakdown)and didnt react favourably to just about anything.I felt dazed, lethargig and very uncoordinated at the min. dose (was it 15mg), but grew used to it after a month or so. At 30mg I began to improve markedly (severe anxiety greatly reduced), and the side effects diminished to a great degree(the dreams it gave were outlandish- must get them printed sometime!!)At 45mg I made good inroads against the depression, and I was able to function MUCH better than with any other med I'd tried. The daytime grogginess does subside after a while (I was easily able to take daytime doses of 15mg).I did develop a ravenous appetite though, and had to let out my belt a few holes, but well worth it, for me at least.
I tok this med for almost 9 months with good effect, but became 'tolerant' of it and switched to effexor (yuch!)
All in all though, if necessary I'd have no qualms about taking it again.
Hope this helps.Colin.
