An earlier post mentioned that Wellbutrin is not metabolized by the liver..... Is this true?
I thought all SSRI's were metabolized by the liver.

1)Wellbutrin is NOT an SSRI. It is a heterocyclic antidepressant, distinct from the SSRIs.

2) Wellbutrin IS indeed metabolized by the liver.

Go to www.rxlist.com and type in "wellbutrin" for more general info on the drug.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) is metabolized by the liver. The be more specific, the parent compound (bupropion) is metabolized by CYP2B6 and CYP3A4 while the metabolite, hydroxybupropion, is metabolized by CYP2D6.
