am I over-reacting?

Posted by KB on March 10, 2002, at 10:51:17

Hello, everybody - I need to know if I"m getting all upset about nothing regarding the following situation:

I have been dating someone (m.)since June and we have been sexually involved since September. Three weeks ago, this person showed up at my house at 11pm on sunday and promptly fell asleep in my living room, apologized, and went home. A week later, at 9pm, it happened again. Last sunday we were going to our high school reunion and m. showed up completely exhausted having been up until 5am partying with law school friends.

I've been feeling like all I"m getting is scraps and leftovers. I also feel like I"m always the one who calls, so I stopped - the last time I called was wednesday night, and we haven't spoken since.

Sorry this is so long but it's really bothering me.

Am I overreacting too?

My opinion? You're getting the scraps. Don't call him. Dump him.

I realized ten years ago that the woman who had been my best friend for ten years never called me. So I stopped calling her. She had just been to my house the night before for dinner, so I figured she'd call and say thanks. Nope. I didn't talk to her until a year later, when I found out she had been attacked in the park, and I went to the hospital to see her.

We were instantly best friends again and have been for ten more years. I called her before she went away for Thanksgiving weekend. I called her when she got back. I called her mid-week to wish her luck on some surgery she had to have. I called her the evening of her surgery. I called her a few days later. Then I got busy. I didn't hear a word from her for two weeks. I sent her an e-mail saying she must be out of town, since I didn't hear from her. It wasn't like her not to say Happy Chanukah to my family. I never heard from her.

We haven't spoken since December 1.

The funny thing is: I can't figure out why we're friends, except that we know each other's histories. When she came to visit me (my daughter was then about three months old and had very huge eyes that didn't blink often) and see the baby, she said, "Ew--get her to stop staring at me; she's giving me the creeps." She made several such remarks. I should have chucked her out the door that moment. Or maybe any of the moments she was telling me, during my pregnancy (when I gained 60 pounds), how her sister was more pregnant than I was, and you couldn't even tell she was pregnant.

Poison relationships make us sick. Time to throw out the poison.

By the way, this belongs on the psycho-social babble. Dr. Bob will probably move it.
