I am very interested in learning more about others who have been taking high-doses of prozac say greater than 140 mg per day. Does this mean that I will be on Prozac for life. I have major depression which has relasped and is also compounded by obsessive-compulsive disorder. Any words of wisdome would be very much appreciated.

I have not been on a dose that high but my understanding is that it is NOT dangerous to take that much. The important thing is whether or not it makes you feel better.
About taking antidepressants for life. I think that if your depression is caused by a traumatic event, you could eventually stop taking medication. But otherwise, I think that many people may need it for life. From what we currently know, it is not dangerous to take antidepressants for life. Recent articles discuss how heart patients who take antidepressants have better survival rates than those who do not. The antidepressants (I think they were SSRI's) supposedly have an anticlotting effect.

I have been on 140 mg Prozac for two days, I am not experiencing any side effects, however my depression has not shown signs of improvement. I have biological depression so I know I will be on my medication for life. I would like to get as much information as possible about other psychiatrists who prescribe between 100 mg and 200 mg of Prozac. Thank you.
