I've been taking Geodon for about 3 weeks and just had to increase my dosage to 60 mg. twice a day. Again, last night I was up from 2-3:45 and couldn't sleep. Has anyone else had problems staying asleep while taking Geodon? It is really exhausting- is this common and is it worth it?

OK HMK. For the second time. Yes. Geodon causes insomnia. It's the only drug I've ever taken that makes me sleepy all day and keeps me up all night. I've been as high as 160mg/day. I've been decreasing the dosage - now down to 40mg.day. I am probably going to stop taking it. Supposedly, Geodon is more sedating at the higher doses and more energizing at the lower dose range, if that helps. I find the sedation during the day more disturbing than the insomnia. Many doctors are prescribing Klonopin to counteract the restlessness Geodon may cause.
I have been taking Geodon for treatment-resistant depression with no psychotic aspects. I have been experimenting with the dosage to see if I can reduce the day-time sedation. Absent this, I would stay with it because it definitely has helped my depression and has very effective anti-anxiety properties as well.
I have been taking 100mg of Trazadone for sleep at bedtime for over 10 years for sleep. Trazadone is a really strong knockout drug. But even the Trazadone has not been able to outweigh the insomnia aspects of Geodon.
This is the end of the thread.
