Hi to all,
my pdoc put me on Trazodone, cause on other SSRI i suffered sexual side effects.
He said me that trazodone HASN'T SEX S/e like other AD.
Have you any experience to share on Trazodone?
Wich side effects do you suffer?
Did it help you for depression?
Thanks for your help!

i had the same problems with the ssri (paroxetin and sertralin) and my pdoc also put me on trazodon (trittico here in austria). she meant that this ad could also be more helpful because
its antihistaminic properties could help to relieve my massive sleep-problems. what then happened was very different from what i expected-i slept well during the night, but also during the day, i was not able to keep an eye open. this stuff was extremely sedating to me!
but-maybe you will react in another way-let's hope so. also-there are two trazodone formulas in austria: "normal" and "retard"(extended-release). i was on the extended-release tablets, i had to take it once daily (150mg) before going to bed.
maybe the extreme tiredness during the day was due to this formulation. after 1 1/2 weeks i withdrew this drug. after all that, a general practitioneer told me that he often prescribes trazodon as a hypnotic, because its not making addicted.
i know all this doesn't sound very optimistic, but these are my experiences with this drug. i hope you will be doing better with it!
(sorry for my bad english)

. . .um, I didn't exactly suffer from the sexual s/e. . had kinda the opposite effect on me. Course I didn't know I was BPII, and that traz. was stimulating a little mania, hard to say. .

I took trazadone for about 18 months and did very well on it. The only side effects I had were some morning sedation and postural hypotension in the first few weeks. It helped my depression quite a bit and was very helpful for sleep when taken at bedtime. I had no sexual side effects at all. Hope this is helpful.

Trazodone isn't an SSRI. It's a relatively weak inhibitor of serotonin reuptake, in fact. It has other, and fairly complicated, effects on the serotonin system, though.
Trazodone isn't supposed to cause sexual dysfunction; I've even heard of it being used to treat sexual dysfunction. There is a very rare sexual side effect that occasionally occurs: priapism, or very prolonged, painful erection. (Yes, it can happen to women too.) This is very serious and can require surgery in extreme cases. I have to stress again that it's very rare, though.
A lot of people find trazodone very sedating, although that's something that often goes away after a little while.

I'm on trazodone for insomnia and haven't noticed any bad effects. Sometimes a little dizzy when I wake up, but only get about 4-5 hours of sleep before my daughter wakes up. It has not effected my sex drive at all.
