My SO...he is my boyfriend, not my husband...we do not live together. It has only been a few months actually. Here is my dillema. I know he needs some help, he now has an appt for Mon. He is so over-tired, can hardly sleep at night, he thinks it's the Depakote...
How do I (in my limited role) express to him that I can see he needs to get some help without "pushing" him? I know he loves me very much as I do him, but I am afraid, at times, that our relationship is perhaps an added stress in his life that he does not need. I would never walk away from this man. I want to spend my life with him...but am I actually hurting more than helping by being another thing for him to think about? Any of you with BP could help me here...are you happy you have your SO's in your life or do you wish that it was only you that you had to deal with? I just feel like I am a burden when I ask to spend time together at times...that is the last thing I want to be to him.

In reply to Chris K, and others with BP...I have a question..., posted by learningagain on April 10, 2002, at 13:29:33
I don't think that if you care as much as you seem to that there can be too much help. I look back now and wish I had more attention from others to my problems. I know now that part of my problem was that I went through it alone. You can be very helpful without being pushy by doing just what you are doing - being aware of his symptoms and encouraging him to keep getting help when times seem bad. Plus, do your best to make sure that he does take his meds as prescribed. The right ones help eventually.
If you want somebody to talk to about this you can e-mail me at the address above. Just click on my name.
