Theory about one type of social phobia

Posted by jonh kimble on April 11, 2002, at 18:32:29

Good day fellow people suffering from mental health problems. As some may know, i am an eighteen year old who has social phobia with some dysthimia. My syptoms are all greatly increased when i smoke pot. I become way more self conscious and generally shy then i already am, and my depression, lack of motivation and general anxiety also increase. I know that many others get just the opposite effect.

Now for my theory. I recently stumbled across a recent study which claimed that they found a chemical in marijuana called amantadine which upon binding of its receptors, has a direct effect on deceasing dopamine transmission. This chemical is naturally found in the body. When its receptor sights were blocked in rats, the rats developed some symptoms similar to those of schizophrenia. It also stated some schizophrenics find relief from smoking pot. Although i have heard conflicting info on the prievious statement, i have heard bits and peices that would support my other theories. For example, my friend who has some mild schizophrenia says that pot makes him much more relaxed while i get just the opposite. This brings in the idea of how amisulpride possibly works. I have read that low doses of amisulpride actually increase dopamine transmission. On the real life level, amisulpride can directly combat dysthimia, social anxiety, and mild g.a.d. Im finding this all very interesting and the possibility that amisulpride could help me seems more evident. Like i said i know this does not aply to everyone, but the fact that i have failed to respond to even the strongest sp drugs(nardil, adrafinil, klonopin) which act on gaba, serotonin, and alpha adrenic, raises the possiblity that amisulpride could be quite effective in this kind of social anxiety. Now, I would love to hear any feedback. Dont be afraid to counter my ideas because i know im no expert, but i want to see what others think.

Hi,

I smoked a little pot when I was 15-20 and had similar effects as you. Increased anxiety and social phobia. I am now 45 and for 8 months have been taking 50mg amisulpride by itself. I had noticable improvement with social functioning by day 8. It's continued effects are very mild, but consistent. At $25 a month I feel it's worth the small improvement.

I wonder who funded the study. Sometimes that says what their motivation is. Gotta watch out for those antipot activists! :) I dont think pot has been studied in as great detail and/or regarding interaction with other drugs as regular drugs are or have been. Its hit or miss really I think. IMHO!

Just how much marijuana have YOU ALL been smoking?

You know if marijuana is anything like speed (???), long term abuse may lead to feelings of paranoia..ex maybe feelings like a group of friends are involved in an elaborate conspiracy to send secret messages.

PS, any relatives named Richard? Just kidding.

Well i never liked pot, but ghb was my social phobia substance. the problem is, ghb makes you TOOO SOCIAL> I mean id never take my shirt off in public or talk to the pretties girl. On ghb, Id take my clothes off, run arround like a nut, and talk to the hottest girl. What ghb does, somewhat like pot, is suppress dopamine levels temporarily, but also increases gaba transmission, seratonin turnover rate, AND increases a chemical called oxytocin which is related to social states.
If you suffer from social phobia, and do ghb, you will become addicted. Then after taking ghb around the clock, the rebound is like a nightmare, shizofrenic, parinoid freak.
If used moderately and proper dosing well may be effective. Its also illegal, just like pot.

Pot VS GHB

Pot usually makes a user laugh at everything for 20minutes, then makes one tired and calm. Some people get parinioid. Pot does kill brain cells and has toxic effect on the liver. Pot also can be detected up to 30 days in the urine.

GHB makes a user feel more loveable, passionate, caring, happy, social, uphoric. Some people act stupid, or very dishinibited, like stripping, talking in circles. Too much ghb you overdose and fall into a very deep sleep and cannot be awoke, casing alarm to others.

Both ghb and pot are schedule 1 drugs. Ghb is non toxic to bodily organs and cannot be detected in a standard urine. If a test is performed for ghb, it has to be done within 8 hrs.
