Can an anti-depressant work for anxiety? I'm tired of the sexual side effects, the tiredness, the lack of motivation for anything.

Rambling...
You can try an AP like Zyprexa,Geodon,Risperdal.
You probably won't get sexual dysfunction or apathy.
Drowsiness may be an issue depending on the med.The other route is to take a gold standard
benzodiazepine like Klonopin. This is probably
the cleanest approach. May induce some drowsiness.Serzone and Remeron of the ADs are least likely
to cause sexual dysfunction. Serzone makes some
people drowsy, but you can combine it with another
antidepressant that gave you the side effects and
the Serzone may help alleviate the sexual dysfunction
and apathy. The APs suggested can be augmented to
antidepressants to help alleviate side effects.John

SSRI's never did s thing for me. Ask your doctor about the TCA's. They seem to be forgotten on modern medicine but they are still highly effective IMO.
As far as anxiety, Benzo's are the way to go. The atypical antipsychotics can help in some cases but something like Klonopin is the best. They can also be taken as needed rather than every day.

plug for neurontin. neurontin rah rah. Was great for anxiety for me and I felt it gave me more energy, if anything. (probably just because less anxiety without sedation). People vary a lot on whether a dose required for anxiety control will cause sedation or not. Good thing about it though is can be started at an effective dose, like the benzos and one usually would see some effect right away, so makes a trial shorter than some other things. -- kate
