My mother is a bipolar, who currently
takes Lithium, and Depakote(valporic Acid)She is been on this combo for a while,
she has also tried Tegratol unsucessfully
to manage her mania. The Depakote causes the most side effects and
I was wondering what other sorts of options
does she have now.Could someone please list for me a few of the
more recent mood stabalizers available, so
that I can do a little research on them.
Thanks

Lamictal works well for me and doesn't cause me to have any side effects

Trileptal (a form of tegretol with less side effects), neurontin (doesn't work well for a lot of people), lamictal (as mentioned), zyprexa, (klonopin, verapamil- both secondary choices). Depakote was very depressing for me, and I only take it when manic. Was she stable on lithium alone? Best of luck- judy
