Ever since I added Zoloft to my meds (which are Lamictal, Risperdal, Cogentin and Remeron) I have continued to put on weight. It has reached the 25 pound mark and I am fed up. However, if I stop the Zoloft my anxiety goes sky high and I start getting twinges of depression back. What can I do? I have tried to cut down on food intake/fat and this weight isn't budging? Is it real fat or water weight? Any advice??

Hi,
Has your pdoc considered switching SSRIs? Sometimes you can experience a side effect such as weight gain with one SSRI but not with others.
I think Remeron can cause weight gain as well.Kari.

I posted this in another post about Risperdal, I was on it for about 2 yrs at 2 mg a day and gained 40 lbs in that time. Once I stopped taking it the weight came off, I'm now on Remeron and Clonazepam. I was taking Risperdal for anxiety and it worked well for that. I have not experienced any weight gain with the Remeron.

What about Neurontin it works has worked well for my anxiety and depression although it is not an SSRI, I don't think it causes any weight gain

zoloft is awful for weight gain and i don't think it helps with anxiety at all. for me, paxil and risperdal was the right combo for anxiety and i lost all the weight i had gained on zoloft. just a thought--i have been able to lose a lot of weight and keep it off by cutting out the carbs in my diet. i basically eat meat and vegetablea and avoid sugar at all costs. it was hard at first, but after a while i stopped craving the carbs. the carbohydrate addict's diet, its a book, helps a lot.
