Parnate wash out perido?

Posted by LLL on August 31, 2002, at 9:44:23

I had posted this earlier in hopes there was a Pharmacist among us but received no response. My question is this: since I was only on 10mgs of Parnate for a period of 12 days, do the rules still apply of waiting one month before going off the MAOI diet and waiting 6-8 weeks before starting St.John Wort? I'd like to get back on the SJW and would hate to wait that long if not necessary. Eating what I want again would be cool too. It's been 3 weeks since I stopped.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hmm, funny you ask that. I was on 10mg of Parnate a day and I just recently stopped in order to do a trial of Zoloft. I gave it a 10 day washout and had absolutely no problems. I'm sure 3 weeks is fine, in fact I think it's usually the recommended time period. Start slow and see how you feel.

Damn it felt great to eat smoked salmon and parmesan cheese again.

If you don't mind my asking, what made you decide to switch to Zoloft? How long were you on the Parnate? I never was able to get above the 10mgs because of the side effects, was that your case as well?

Yes, I couldn't take the side effects either. I felt VERY strange (altered states of consciousness, weird thoughts, etc) and developed all sorts of headaches along with having insomnia. Also I just eat so much to maintain my size the diet was far too inconvenient. Like you I couldn't even get to 20, although I tried for a few days.

I didn't choose Zoloft for any particular reason, it's just another AD in a long list of stuff to try next. Sigh.

Yes, I certainly can relate. (nm) » Jackd
