GETTING OFF EFFEXOR AND HAIR LOSS

Posted by Deanna on September 2, 2002, at 10:33:54

I had been on effexor XR for 2.5 years for anxiety and panic attacks. Although it solved the panic problem, I started to feel side effects, like tremors, so I decided it was time to get off of it. A year ago, I went down from 75 mg to 37.5 mg. In May of this year I began to wheen myself off it by pouring alittle out of each capsule each day. It is Now Sept. 2 and I have been completely off of it since the first week in Aug.
My hair began falling out the second week in June. And it still is. I have lost about 70%. I have had many blood tests done, and the docs can't find any internal cause, and they swear it is not the effexor. But I disagree. I also had a bad week a few weeks ago of sevier depression and anxiety... something I am told is the "boomerang effect" and that it is normal and shouldn't last.
Has anyone else here heard of or had the experience of hair loss while stopping effexor or another antidepressant???

Have you lost your appetite? Are you taking any other medication?

No... I have definitely not lost my appetite! And no, I am not taking any other meds.

Usually hair loss is WHILE you are on AD's. This is a puzzle. Sorry I can't help. I started losing hair when I lost my appetite and zoloft brought it back.
