Question about benzo withdrawal

Posted by gloryb on September 3, 2002, at 14:21:25

I brought this topic up before but I may have
been too specific to get many answers. For
those who haven't heard my complaining (sorry
for those who have) I'll go through it quickly.

I have been taking 7.5mg per night of tranxene
(benzo) for over 5 years for seizures. Did not
know it was a benzo, and if I did, I didn't
know the seriousness of how quickly one became
addicted. I was in a medical field so I should
have.

The doc raised it by 1/2 pill and then raised another
anti-convulsant. When things got better I thought
it would be ok to end the 1/2 pill in the morning.
No one told me anything about benzo withdrawal.
Certainly not this doctor (who is being fired
by me!)

Well, no doubt I'm having some withdrawal. It
began about a week ago, a couple of days after
the abrupt ceasing of the extra 1/2 pill.

Here's my question...I still take the 7.5mg
at night. When all calms down I'm planning to
have the doc slowly stop that. In the meantime,
I'm wondering what anyone thinks, from their
experiences, of how well withdrawal will go
when you are not clearing your body of the
drug entirely. My logic says this should
be short-lived---but my logic said I could
stop the 1/2 pill, so I don't trust it anymore!

I'm trying to relax and take it day by day, but
September is a month with a lot to do in it and
there are family health issues adding to my
anxiety. This is not a good time for this!

Any experiences or knowledge would be helpful.
