Burning up my $$ on psychiastrists....

Posted by Dave001 on September 5, 2002, at 21:31:37

. . . who know less about drugs than I do. I'm paying $125 for 45 mins of time on a weekly basis, and since he doesn't "do" MAOIs, I need to find someone with experience prescribing them. So I ask him for a recommendation of someone who could do a consultation, he puts in a call to someone he thought might be a good choice, and I have to wait for another week just to find out what I'm supposed to do from there. My experience tells me it will take months of phone calls and dealing with the beaurocracy before anything gets done; and all the meanwhile I've blown thousands of $$ on appointments and am going broke because I have no job, and have had to move back home at age 25. I personally find it apalling that as an adult, I have to "ask permission" from a doctor to take medications. Screw this; I think I'll just order the Parnate online from an overseas company.

Dang Dave, that sucks.. mine pdoc is $195/hour but after the first session you only usually pay $85/20min but only do a few sessions a month or less... My pdoc asked me during the first session if I wanted to try Nardil or Paxil... I didn't want to waste my time with Paxil so I am trying the big gun now...

Good luck
Nick

Does the term 'pdoc' = a psychiatrist or psychopharmacologist? I assume it's the latter, but I've never been sure of that. What is the best way to find a pdoc, BTW? The yellow pages? I need to know where to find a new one (just for maintenance prescriptions), as I want to move to the opposite coast once I get my meds straightened out and conquer my depression.

Thanks for your reply.

Well I say screw psychologists. For many of them, the health of their patients aren't the greatest of their concerns. No, their biggest concern is how fat and expensive their wallets and cars are. Maybe you should try something alltogether different.
