A recent poster mentioned that he/she had the usual weight gain folks report for Remeron, but implied that this effect lasted only three weeks.
Is there anyone else who out there who either didn't gain weight on Remeron, or had only temporary weight gain -- without having to make an intensive effort to diet or exercise more? If so, what else, if anything, were/are you taking at the same time?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Rick;
I have posted before about my experience with Remeron and weight gain. I haven't gained on it and have actually lost 30+ lbs that I gained prior to starting it on while on another anti-d. I haven't changed my eating habits or taken up any excercise regime, it just naturally starting coming off. I have been on Rem for close to 10 mos now, I also take Clonazepam for anxiety as the Rem hasn't helped with that. Hope this helps.

Hi Rick,
I may have been that poster.The effect was basically that I had a high appetite immediately after going on it (but not as bad as paxil appetite). However, I didn't crave sugar the way I did on paxil. So had I chosen better foods it wouldn't have continued to be a problem. I was however still on that treadmill from the paxil.
After 3-4 weeks the appetite subsided back to my pre AD days. At about the same time most of my motivation to excercise etc came back after having been gone while on paxil. So now a few weeks further down the track I'm excercising, my weight has stabilised and fat is starting to be burnt off.

Rick -
I tried Remeron 6 weeks to initial good high energy type A personality effect - only to lose out to depression, agitation, anger, disinhibition. This with 4.5 Klonopin. Was hyper on this regimen. In end I felt like I was taking maybe ritalin + Klonopin if I had to guess. That was 15 remeron + 4.5 klonopin. And I slept 8 hours awesome woke up type A that was the coolest thing about it.
My response pretty atypical I believe. I increased dose to 30 in a retrial 2 years later that went a similar course - but at 30 I developed the typical remeron effects sedation and hunger and depression to boot.
Course I repond to serotonnin agents and remeron is pretty mixed with strong s2 and s3 block so for someone who doesn't need a strong ssri like agent ... ?
oh I added zoloft later, 7.5-15 remeron + 25 - 50 zoloft. I found that 7.5 remeron OBLITERATED all 50 zoloft sexual side effects with FULL RETURN OF ANXIETY/DEPRESSION. best combo was 15 remeron + 50 zoloft but all inferior for me to 60 nardil. not a bad combo though if somebody doesn't want to mess with an maoi...
