I recently started taking Adderall to combat treatment resistant depression and quickly developed a tolerance to it. It works great when I am on it, but each day it seems to have less and less therapeutic effect. For those worried about inducing mania with this drug, be aware that my pdoc also has me on Zyprexa (10 mg). He also started me on Zonegran today as a mood stabilizer.
My question involves drugs used in conjunction with Adderall that help diminish the tolerance. I've heard of people taking a drug called memantine for this effect, but it is not yet available in the USA. Is anyone else taking an adjunct with Adderall to reduce the "poop-out"?

Can't say I can answer your question, but I've always noticed that taking Adderall for my ADD always lets the poop out much faster than without any drug. I think it has to do with the speed at which the colon is regulated at.

Yes, there is talk that nmda antagoists can help with this (I have exact same prob). They include memantine, some anticonvulsants/ mood stabilizers (dont really know which) My only first hand experience is that when I drink stimulants effect me way more, and alcohol is an nmda antagonist.

I found that Adderall XR (30mgs) works so much better for me when i take it on an empty stomach.
Maybe this will work for you.
