Anybody heard of research or experiences regarding abilify and depression? This drug sounds like a major breakthrough for schizophrenia and it seems like it effects the negative symptoms (social withdrawal etc.) so it seems like it might be useful for depression. Also its side effect profile seems excellent.

It seems to have some anti-depresant qualities.

Hi Peter,
I've been taking Abilify for depression for about a month now. It helps with energy and motivation and works as well for depression as risperidone, which I was on previously. It seems to help all the "negative symptoms" which characterizes my atypical depression; even my memory and thinking ability seems better. My pdoc, who was on the clinical trials, said it markedly helped depression and negative symptoms in schizophrenia. If you do decide to try it, just remember to start on a very low dose (like a quarter or half of a 15mg pill) to avoid anxiety and insomnia.

Anita,
How long did it take to kick in for you?
Thanks,
Shelley

Hi Shelli,
I felt energetic the first day, although it was a little uncomfortable. After the 3rd or 4th day I noticed an increase in motivation. So for me, it worked really fast.

Hi,
What are the benefits of taking Abilify as opposed to taking something like Zyprexa?
