Nardil Impatience and Fatigue

Posted by Marginal on February 6, 2003, at 17:16:08

Day 20 on Nardil, about a week on 90 mg. -- I'm impatient for the "kick in" I had with it before.

Also, new side effect for me: absolute fatigue, so bad I can fall asleep almost anywhere/anytime (unusual for me). Particularly after a dose, which I stagger in 2's.

Anyone else get clobbered like this with Nardil fatigue?

thx

Hi,

You need to be patient with Nardil, took about 30 day's for it to kick in for me. When it did though it was amazing.

I also felt fatigue and took naps on Nardil in the first month, it gradually did get better. I still do occasionally get tired still but only for about an hour...

good luck

Nardil always took between 4 to 6 weeks to work for me ... even when I started at my maintenance dose of 60mg. I though it was because in takes sometime for the MAOIs to bind and saturate the MAO enzymes in the gut and then the brain. I also found I had some mild daily fatigue and severe mid afternoon fatigue .... the former due to the increased GABA levels and the later due to the increased dopamine from the nardil (this happens frequently to parkinson's patients on dopamine enhancers ... afternoon somnolence.)

J

PS I though you meant Nardil Impotence and Fatigue at first .... that is also a problem for me

Nardil appeared to begin to kick in for me after 14 or so days, and continued on the 30mg over 5 weeks. At that point I seemed to reach a level where an increase was required.
Found Nardil caused no fatigue until I took above 30mg.Did you experience this problem beofre on your maintenance level.
I'd rather be happier with a little fatigue than miserable in depression.
Have you read the above thread which Jack Smith started by asking "who has Stopped taking Nardil or Parnate"? Quite a few have discussed their experience on Nardil.( Yes, I'm there too :-)! )

Patient. Patient. Took 6 weeks for me -- 4 of those weeks at 60mg. Regardless, each dose takes time to kick in. If you've been on 60mg for 12 weeks, changing to 90mg will take time i.e. the therapeutic effects of 90mg might take 4/5/6 weeks regardless of the time spent on a smaller dose.

When I started 90mg, yes big time! Went away after 2 or so weeks. I enjoyed it, actually!

Good luck!

THANK you all for input. I think getting up to 90 so quickly threw my system off, but that was my therapeutic dose before. Only a few weeks on the drug so far, I know, so I will be as patient as they come.

The fatigue is weird, and not altogether unwelcome (unless I time the dose badly, while at work or something).

I'll keep all posted, as it seems there are many current or burgeoning MAOI users out there.

Hi,
I have been taking Nardil for 5 weeks now, at 45mg. So far only slight relief. Someone mentioned how it goes to the gut first then the brain. I have had several gastrointestinal problems since starting, Is this common.

thx

I remember doing the same thing. My doctor started checking my blood- pressure. It was very low. It was so low, that she started having me slowly put caffeine back in my diet. It worked and I didn't need to increase the dosage and actually went down. I have since decreased the dosage and keep the caffeine in my diet.
