It may only take a few days, I felt the very best the seventh day, but my side effects (mild headache, nausea) only lasted a couple of days, and by the 4 day I felt wonderful.

>After three hours, I got a really bad sedating effect to it. It's bad because my lame roommates aren't out and I have these blindingly bright flourescent bulbs staring down at me and I can't sleep until they're off... ugg, who was the genius who thought having one light switch for three rooms was smart?

Hi Utopizen.

What condition are you treating with Abilify?
How long have you been taking it for?
Can you describe in what ways it has helped you?
How much are you taking and how long did it take for you to see results?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Akk! I got SO tired last night after taking it for the first time. I went to sleep at midnight and woke up just now. And I could go to sleep again if I decided to. It's 2PM.
And my arm felt weighted down on my bed when I woke up-- there was no blood in it. For some reason while I was sleeping, my arm had been weighted down by itself and this stopped it from getting blood.

I started taking 10 mg of abilify jan. 25th and stopped taking zyprexa 3 days ago. I feel pretty normal except slight headaches. I think it is going to work well for me, So far anyway.

>>I finally got the motivation to take a 20mg of Adderall, and I lost the sedation and am feeling fine. In fact, more than fine- very at ease, confident at the world. Of course, it's gotta be a placebo, or just a reflection at my optimism for finally taking something that has a good chance at helping me.
I'm probably going to a party tonight. I probably will take a 1mg of Klonopin, but do my best to avoid alcohol (don't worry, I only take it to talk to others, not addicted or anything, so it won't be hard to talk myself out of). Just hope my 6pm dose tonight doesn't fry me like last night into a sedation.

IT flares up for no reason. If I DONT lift weights, IT flares up, I think its viral in some people!!!

Lexapro worsened my symptoms on 5 mgs in one day, thats an easy way to get a diagnosis,,, Lexapro felt like a hard drug! LOL. so SSRIS all cause me symptomatic Troubles, Im forced to avoid them and take abilify @ 22.5 mgs a day. ITs supposed to be a new generation of Atypicals according to this research Manual I got from the MD

Well, it was only after waking up and going back to sleep for an hour my arm feel asleep, so I was able to restore blood flow and now it's usable again. As for sedation, wow, good thing I have ADD, because just 20mg of Adderall rescued me from that horrid state.
I took my first dose last night at 6, but I'm thinking I'll take my dose today at 9 or 10, then tomorrow at midnight. That way I never have to worry about nighttime sedation before I go to sleep.

YAY for you! I was going to suggest taking it before bed, but you figured that out yourself. I take mine at 10 and am usually in bed by 11, but after a few days if I stayed out until 3 I was still wide awake. Be careful, as with any atypical, about drinking alcohol. I went out the other night, and I hardly drink, but I was feeling adventurous, so I had a drink. Nothing happened, and as it was dollar night, I had one more. YIPES! bad mistake. I won't go into details, but a raging hangover and was miserable. I am a lightweight (1 or 2 drinks is my max anyway) but I think mixing those dopamines does something to your system. GOOD LUCK! megan

So far I've have been quite happy with this medication.

Can't believe what I'm reading here. My doc just put me on Abilify and Ultram (never heard of it, it's a darn pain medication). I have atypical depression: sleeping, eating too much, no energy, you know the spiel. Anyway, after reading these posts, it sounds entirely counterindicated for me. I stressed that I needed something to get me going. I'm scared to keep taking it.

I just started Abilify today, too. I also have atypical depression- extreme fatigue is my major problem. I've tried a whole bunch of meds- nothing so far has helped- Celexa, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Provigil, Moclobemide, Parnate- no benefits, just side effects from all.
I'm really nervous about starting a neuroleptic agent. But my pdoc says the side effects are not bad and probably less than some other choices (i.e another MAOI). Well, we'll see. I've got nothing to lose at this point; I don't know what else to do anymore.

Don't fret too much, I was wired after I took it. I only get 5 hours of restful sleep (and a 45 minute nap after classes ;) I took it at bedtime though, and was asleep within the hour. I would just look at it hopefully, and maybe this time the meds will work! p.s. I had SEVERE depression after my dad died, and I spent a lot of time in therapy, have you given this option a try? it may help as well

I go to school, and I noticed a marked difference in my memory. Definitions were a little harder to remember, but concepts were easier to comprehend... could just be me, but I am a bio major, so I have a lot to learn in a little time so I have to notice these things.

I'm an English major. Aside from initially being sedating on the first 2 days and these days being activating for a few hours after taking it now and then, I would probably forget I took it. I first started on Fri night last week, so today is basically my 7th day.

The Abilify isnt more intense and activating,,, It side effect profile is Awesome according to the studies. Subtile is better than anything if you ask me. the brain doesnt enjoy jarring medications or alcohol, The Human Brain is VERY VERY sensative to medications in MOST individuals GOOD Luck on this medication!

(btw, I hate the name Abilify. Sounds vaguely Orwellian)
Well, it's my 3rd day. Hard to say if it is helping yet. I felt simply awful after my first dose- felt spacey, slept all day (at work!). I had a bad headache the next day. Not so bad with the next two doses; except I'm not sleeping very well at night. I feel strangely energized and exhausted at the same time, if that makes sense. My mood is a bit brighter, I think. I'm still very hesitant about being on a neuroleptic without having psychosis- every day I think I'll stop taking it. But nothing else has worked for me, so I figure I'll give it a shot.
This is the end of the thread.
