can someone list the ssris from the most potent to the least potent. thanks.
also, is celexa weaker than the rest of the ssris? resulting in less side effects?

from most potent to least (serotonin): Paxil, zoloft, celexa, luvox, prozac
from most potent to least (norepinephrine):Paxil, zoloft, Prozac, Luvox...wellbutrin fits in there somewhere
from most potent to least (dopamine): zoloft, prozac, paxil, celexa, luvox
I have seen many variations, however...check out this site: http://www.preskorn.com/books/ssri_s3.html#tab3-1

Well, I'm not a doc, but
1) YMMV
2) depends on dosages
Good luck, someone here may know more than I do.
I will tell you though, that when I was on Celexa-I had the fewest side effects than all the other SSRI's I went on (all of them) and Celexa, for me, had minimum side effects, if any.
Hope this helped

According to Table 3.7 on Preskorn's site, at its minimum effective dose, Celexa inhibits the serotonin reuptake transporter the least potently compared to the other SSRI's. I find that to be extremely interesting; one might expect the minimum effective dose of each SSRI to exhibit a similar effect. So the percentage of serotonin transporters inhibited does not correlate with the minimum effective dosage for these drugs. I wonder how many people stick with the minimum dosage of Celexa...

I did a bit more research on this topic, and I cannot find any explanation of the apparent inconsistency. All I could find was a somewhat relevant article about Celexa (citalopram).
