My fiance' s pdoc just took him off of Paxil CR 37.5 mg & put him on Wellbutrin. His pdoc just told him to stop taking it & start taking the Wellbutrin right away. I have heard & read about the effects one can have from suddenly stopping Paxil. Should this be a concern? He has been on Paxil for about 4 months now. I was reading an article that listed some pretty intense withdrawal symptoms one can possibly have when suddenly stopping Paxil. He is having other health problems & this is something else he doesn't need to deal with.
Does anyone have any experience with this or have an suggestions? I would think that if it were a big concern his pdoc would have gradually reduced his dose before starting the Wellbutrin.
His pdoc has also put him on Buspar. I've never taken this medication & he hasn't either. Any info on this medication? I don't really know much about it. I know why it is prescribed, but any side effects, concerns or experiences with it? My fiance' was taking Klonopin, but it wasn't working.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you in advance!!!!

> JodieHi,
most seratonergic anti D's cause withdrawel effects ,especially if the drug is stopped abruptly. Not to alarm you but Paxil is renowned for being one of the harder ones to withdraw from.Every anti D I came off caused me significant distress except when I did swap over directly from one drug to another. This shouldn't cause half as much trouble if any.
Just my opinion,Try not to worry.

I've been on Paxil CR and have stopped it abruptly. It takes longer than regular Paxil for the withdrawal to start but I experienced the same withdrawal syndrome. I decided to stay on Paxil CR in part because of it. Paxil CR has been a miracle for me, nonetheless. If I were you I would seek out a more experienced psychiatrist. 37.5mg should be tappered as far as I know.
