I don't know if its really working yet but I am beginning to feel more positive on celexa, this is almost the end of my second week.
I am suprised my doc didn't suggest Lexapro instead of celexa, weird.
Anyway I haven't had any side effects at all, although i am sure i will end up with a lack of sex drive like I did in prozac.

I am fairly new to this site, but I am glad to hear that you are doing well on Celexa. May I ask why you are not taking Prozac (Fluoxetine) anymore? I've been on fluoxetine for almost two weeks (10mg.) I'm eager to hear from others who have taken fluoxetine.
God Bless

Hi,
I stopped taking prozac for a number of reasons, most of them nothing to do with a bad reaction to the drug.
I found it to be very effective for a long while, although I did find that I became very disinterested in everyhting towards the end, i was neither happy nor unhappy, just very indifferent, Apparently all SSRI's can cause this. It also caused a very low sex drive.
To be honest though the postitives far outweighed the negatives. It really helped me to reverse my negative thinking and just get on with my life, for the first time in a long time I felt like a normal person is supposed to feel, I guess.
It did take a while to kick in and it happened very gradually, hardly noticeble, just everyday you get better and then you realise how far you have come !
Good luck, i hope this works out well for you, let me know,

Thanks for the information. You are the second person that I've spoken to testify to the gradual effect of Fluoxetine. The other person made the same statement about just waking up one day and realizing that they felt great! What was the dose that you were taking? How are you doing on Celexa? I really thank God for people on this site who are so willing and eager to help :)

Hi,
I started off on 10mg and moved up to 20mg, after a while (8 months) I felt a little down so the doc suggested moving up to 30mg and then up to 40mg. When I started feeling a bit emotionless he suggested I move back down to 30mg, as that dosage may have been too high.
Celexa seems pretty good, my doc says he gets good results with it. Again I think its the gradual getting better thing...I am really grateful that these drugs and this message board exist !

See my above post to Janelle about whether or not to switch to Lexapro.
I think you have a very responsible doc (you are lucky) who is prescribing something he knows works rather than something that is being pushed by the drug companies--not to say that Lex does not work, it just has not been out as long as Celexa.

Celexa is a great drug. I was on it for a couple of years before switching to Lexapro. I gradually moved up to 60 mg of Celexa with excellent results. I am now on 20 mg of Lexapro and doing great. I feel a bit sharper mentally on Lex than I did on Celexa. Also, the sexual side effects are a bit less for me on Lexapro. Both drugs have been really great for both my anxiety and depression.
Edgefield - Prozac is also a terrific drug. I was on it for 2 years. However, I felt less daytime tiredness when I switched to Celexa and then to Lexapro. Also, I have less sexual side effects now. My advice to you is to stay with Prozac. Everyone is different when it comes to side effects. If you do encounter bad side effects in the future, then you might consider switching. But as far as I'm concerned, beating depression is worth having the side effects.

BillL, thanks for the words of encouragement. I agree with you about beating depression is worth putting up with a few side effects. I'm glad to know that you also experienced the daytime sleepiness with Prozac. I was beginning to think it was just me, since my doctors kept stressing that Prozac is very activating. Since this is only week number 3, I'm believing that soon this drowsiness will subside. I still have not experienced that clarity of mind and happy feeling that you have, but I'm sure that is coming soon. Thanks again!
God Bless
