Neurontin--smaller doses each *two* hours?

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on April 25, 2003, at 9:47:12

In a thread earlier this week, I was asking for help regarding my Neurontin dosage. I received some great input, especially about the drug's reduced bioavailability the higher the dose goes. I was taking 800mg three times per day, but just yesterday switched to 400mg six times a day. This seems to be working *SO* much better. Is there a real scientific basis for this? Please tell me I'm not imagining it, that it's not placebo. Has anyone else employed this technique with gabapentin? Thanks! :-)

that a lower dose given more frequently may increase efficacy due to the meds bioavailabiliy....I might have it book marked. If I do, I'll post it for you...BUT doc, who did like the newness of neurotin for a while, has now basically lost faith in it. When I asked him, when I was on it about increasing the amount of times taken per day, he mentioned that qid is really all that he feels patients can take with reliability...IOW, more than that gets too confusing...He has the same theory, but sort of in reverse- about "weekly" Prozac...thinks the med/ any med other than PRN needs to be taken daily for maximum compliance (you know what I mean, not as in being "non-compliant"--not taking with knowledge, but "forgetting" innocently.

Why don't you ever come on over to babble...it's not quite as dry as here and I have a bit of SP on top of other anxiety issues...just a thought and invite
