Anyone else have these side effects???

Posted by MissMcc on June 25, 2003, at 23:03:38

I have been taking effexor for 6weeks now and my depression has definately reduced, however I am experiencing a few side effects that have me a bit worried.
I have nasuea that makes me not want to eat, however if I miss a meal I become very weak. I have experienced a few pauses/ brain frezzes....I phase out completly for a few seconds.
I am also often clenching my jaw tight but I wont notice till I feel the strain.
I used to be able to run at least twenty minutes and feel fine....now I am dizzy when I run up the stairs or get up too fast.
As well my face is starting to break out with acne....which may also be related to my diet.
Although I know effexor is helping with the depression these side effects are making me want to stop taking this med and are concerning me. any advice/comments would be so very much appreciated. take care.

As far as the nausea goes, sometimes breaking it up into smaller doses instead of one large dose can help. I have also experienced the jaw clenching, it hurts. Unfortunately I did it in my sleep so I had to get a mouthguard to wear at night which keeps you from doing it. I had one made at the dentist but I have seen new ones alot cheaper available at the drugstore. Some meds do make you dizzy/weak. It depends sometimes it goes away in time/sometimes it doesn't. For the acne, try drinking alot of water. It seemed to help for my med related acne. Hope some of this helps. Glad to here it is working for the depression!

MissMcc,
I have been on Effexor for about three years. I did notice some side effects at the beginning, but they did mostly go away over time. The one that I would mention though is this:
Once, my doctor switched me from Effexor to Wellbutrin, and I was miserable. Even with titrating down slowly, I felt a lot of dizziness. It took about a month for that to go away, and afterward, the Wellbutrin didn't work.
I also felt the same thing a few times when I forgot to take my meds for a couple days.
I'm glad though, that I'm on the Effexor. It is working really well for me, and I'm glad that it's working for you.
Dee.
