Escitalopram (Cipralex in Europe) Withdrawal?!

Posted by JerryB on August 27, 2003, at 4:11:53

Hi,
I've been on Cipralex for about a year now (after coming off Seroxat) and have started to reduce my dose. I was on 10mg a day and am now down to alternate days. I have started feeling sick, tired and dizzy. From what I can find there is relatively little published about withdrawal effects for Cipralex.

What have others found?
Jerry

Unfortunately, this drug has a half life of 24 hours. To reduce, it is probably not a good idea
do alternating days.

You are going to want to reduce the drug using either a pill splitter, or by desolving the drug in water, then pouring out measured portions.

If you do alternating days with this drug it might me a roller coaster.

Another option is to ask the doc to switch to prozac (has a very long half life) and then you can to alternating days if you like.

You really want to reduce this drug extremely slowly. Say over the course of 1.5-2 months idealy.

Replace it with exercise, plenty of B vitamins, and 5HTP if they have it where you are.

Rather than alternating days, you might be better off cuting the pills in half and taking them everyday for a few weeks. Then take a quarter of a pill for a week or so.

After a month or so of being drug free, if you feel depressed, consider starting Lexapro again or one of the other antidepressants.
