What's a good first stimulant?

Posted by yesac on August 28, 2003, at 15:46:56

I've never been on a stimulant before, but I'll be starting one in a couple weeks (once Parnate is out of my system), and I'm just wondering about suggestions for what might be good to try first?

Thanks.

I guess that depends on what symptoms you are trying to treat. I would recommend Adderall as the best "real" stimulant, and Provigil as the best "kinder, gentler" stimulant.

Just my opinion,

I'll echo the above post, although it depends on what the stimulant is for. Provigil was a good energizer for me, with no increase in anxiety, but didn't help with my ADD issues enough. Adderall works better for me (for ADD), and I haven't had any of the "crash" effects that some others have reported here. Both have mood-lifting effects for me.

Some people do best with Ritalin, but my pdoc considers it "harsher" and more likely to cause anxiety and rapid crashes as it leaves your system (I haven't tried it). All of this is very individual-specific, though.
