I'm new here and I'm not really sure how this goes...so...I'll just start off.
I'm a recovering drug addict and my doctor put me on Zoloft. I was coming off a lot of meth and I was so tired I tough I would die. He then switched me to Celexa. It made me manic and crazy--I was seriously having homocidal thoughts. After 2 days of not taking it I was back to normal and back on the Zoloft. Now I am taking 100mg of Zoloft with 50mg of Topamax. My doctor says this should level me out without me gaining any wieght--I'm very concerned with getting fat since I didn't eat for years while getting high and I'm just now wieghing in at 115 and I'm 5'3" and freaking out. So...while thats not fat I don't want to gain weight due to the meds. Any advice out there or input?

My experience with Zoloft was a horrible one, but I'm sure you know that everyone reacts differently to these medications. That being said, Zoloft typically will cause weight gain, though for some people it will cause weight loss, and for some it is weight-neutral. Though I've never tried Topamax (just about the only med I haven't tried), I hear that it's really great for losing weight... there are others on here who have firsthand experience with it and could comment on this a little better.

> Thank you so much.Welcome. I'm a recovering addict too. There are several of us here. The most important thing is that you've stopped using. Zoloft was the first AD I used and it worked well for about two years. It leveled things out for me and things went pretty well on it. There are some side effects. All the meds have them. You just have to be patient. Not at all easy for us addicts. We are used to instant gratification. Stick with your med. I gained weight at first but then was able to lose it through diet and exercise. Deal with the meds just like recovery...one day at a time.
