side effects of Effexor

Posted by pkls on August 30, 2003, at 12:46:17

Hey, has anyone out there had hives and itching as a reaction to Effexor. Depressionwise it has worked well, but I've hives coming and going for 3 months now (I started effexor 7 months ago) and I am ruling out the "usual suspects". I am on 150mgs, and am freaked about the withdrawl if I should go to another drug instead. Ideas?

If you do need to switch to another antidepressant the withdrawl effects
of Effexor should be lessened. Ie some
people take prozac to get off effexor.

I wouldn't be too worried about switching.

Your side effects may or may not subside,
as I personally never had them while on
effexor, so I don't really know.

I quit Effexor XR after taking only 37.5mg for one month and it was horrible. Feeling like something disasterous was going to happen to me, not pleasant and it kicked in about 24 hours after last dose. I took another Effexor XR till I could find something to offset withdrawal and after my last morning dose of Effexor XR, the next morning I took 20mg of Prozac and an antihystimine that makes you a little sleepy like benedryl. This was 100% better for me than cold turkey.
