A night about 11 years ago (i was 9 at the time) i got very drunk, and when i woke up i was still drunk. It did not go away (this was very destressing for a 9 year old), and to this day i wake up with the same feeling of "not being here"I cannot seam to wake up from an endless dream and the feeling of being wasted. Is there anyone out there who has had this before or even better, knows of a treatment, its unbearable.
thanks

Hi rob,
The fact that you are worried about losing your mind is a good sign you are indeed not. Of course, I'm not a psychiatrist, but I do suffer from the same feelings of "unreality" as you put it. There is even a name in psychiatry for feeling "unreal". It's called derealization.
These are symptoms of an anxiety disorder, usually panic disorder. The distressed tone of your message would be a good indication that you are prone to anxiety. Is this correct?
The good news is that anxiety (along with its symptoms of feeling "unreal") is probably the most readily treatable psychiatric problem.
I have done well on antianxiety drugs, namely Klonopin. I also have had cognitive therapy (a form of psychotherapy that is effective for panic attacks). I feel back to myself now. I do occasionally still feel "unreal", but not nearly to the extent I did before, and much less often. I'm getting better, and most people do.
I suggest seeing a good, caring psychiatrist that specializes in anxiety disorders, and go from there.
Best,
Matt

Rob, as Matt stated you are not losing your mind, and this is treatable. Please see a doctor.

thanks for the reply matt.
well im not sure if i suffer or am prone to anxiety. but i have had some very bad experiences in my life, deaths of both parents when i was very young (mum when i was 3 and dad when i was 11) etc. etc, mayb this might have caused it? either way, i need to find a way to beat this as i cant see myself going through the rest of my life in this way
ROB
PS. when i look in the mirror i cant recognise the person staring back at me
