Is this possible? Lexapro has done wonders for my depression, but I have the same foggy feeling as I did when I was taking Topomax. Problems with the same kinds of things like word recall, forgetting something just moments after thinking or saying it, having to read things a few times before understanding it, etc.

Yes I can relate, but I figure all the good things Lex has done for me far out-weigh this, and anyway I was starting to get *stupid* from *old age* anyway so I figure what's the dif?
Best of luck to you!~~~8|8

Hi Nikita,
I am experiencing a similar thing (at day 21 on Lexapro) but it is intermittant. In other words, on some days I am actually *more* focused rather than less focused.
Are you by any chance relatively early in the process like I am? From what I have seen so far, the Lex side-effects tend to "stabilize" as time goes on.

Hi Nikita, I get the foggy feeling still sometimes, but from what I hear after at least a good 2 months on Lex we should really know if it is helping.
Good luck and keep us posted:-)> Is this possible? Lexapro has done wonders for my depression, but I have the same foggy feeling as I did when I was taking Topomax. I had that problem also (I take 20mg Lexapro) but it lessened over time. With me it was a little different. I feel less foggy than before meds. But with the same short term memory problem that you are describing. So I feel clear headed with a memory problem (if that makes any sense). I cope pretty good. I just have to do a little more work trying to remember. And I do concentrate better with Lex than I did before meds. (Lots of seeming contradictions)

Yep, I get that from the ssri's in general.
As for Lexapro, I'm taking just 5 mg right now but I believe that 5 mg of Lex = 20 mg of Celexa, correct?

5 mg of Lex has the same active ingredient as 10 mg Celexa. But the "inactive" ingredient of Celexa appears to compete with the active ingredient. Therefore, people guess that 5 mg of Lexapro is probably as strong as 15 to 20 mg Celexa.
However, 5 mg of Lexapro is for many people too low over time. It might work well initially. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor to increase the dose at a later date if you feel the need. I personally take 20 mg Lexapro and am doing very well.

I had the same reaction when I first started taking Lex. I thought to myself, "This medicine makes me feel completely STUPID!" It was like simple little things just slipped my mind, I forgot things I needed to do at work, and just felt like I couldn't think properly. But I've been on it for about 5 months, and that feeling has gone away....I think maybe it's just your brain getting used to these new chemicals in it, and adjusting itself (just my own non-scientific opinion). So there's hope - you won't always feel so dumb!! (Unless you're in law school, like me, and then you just go through a period of feeling stupid cause that's what it does to you.)
