Laexapro and menstual cycle

Posted by nemo kitty on November 17, 2003, at 13:52:17

Hi
I have been on Lexapro for 2 weeks now. I am 8 days late on my period. This is very unusual. I am always 28 days exaxtly. And NO, I am not pregnant, not possible. Has anyone experienced this before? I am concerned because I know my body and this bothers me.

Other side effects are extrem tiredness in the mornings...I mean really extreme bouts of not being able to lift my head from the pillow. (I take the Lex in the mornings AFTER I get up)
I have a lot of itching on my neck (this I have read is a s.e. also)and I was sick sick sick for the 1st week off and on. Now the nausea has gone away.

There have been numerous reports of strange cycle behavior on Lexapro (at least for the first few months). Mine unfortunately got longer - yuck!

You didn't indicate if you were on the pill or not. There have also been some studies (inconclusive) that note a possible interaction.

You may want to check with your doctor to rule out other problems that may be causing the lateness.

I had problems with my cycle on Celexa, which is similiar to Lexapro. I have also read of many others having the same type of problems.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INPUT! I read a lot about Lexpro, but never heard of it interferring with menstural cycles. I am not on the pill.

One more note on this subject. I just completed my first month on Lex 10mg. My period was very, very light - almost non-existent and none of the usual cramping. It only made its appearance for one day. I had also read on this site that some women's periods got longer and heavier. Maybe we're just lucky? I'm on birth control pills.

Thanks so much for the post! I was worried at first.
LEXAPRO has been so great for me. I tried other ssri's and gained a ton of weight, felt hot and could not sleep. I feel so good. I feel calm for the first time in so long without being "out of it." Hope your experience is as good*

For the drowsiness it can help to take the dosage at night.
