Klonopin Doasge?

Posted by AndyD on November 16, 2003, at 13:05:32

Hey all,

Question! My doc prescribed me Klonopin .5 mg twicw a day. I take .25 mg twicw a day. I have to say my anxiety is pretty much gone, but I still have some anticipatory anxiety like driving far away. Although I feel I could, as before there was no way, i still am a little concerned. Will uping the dosage help this? Also, I feel, well the best way to put it is lethargic. Dont really care about a whole lot. ALSO- can I exercise on klonopin? Any dangers? I was thinking maybe working out again may help out the whole thing.

Hey Andy! Glad the klonopin's working for you. It is normal to feel "lethargic" when you first start taking a benzo like klonopin--sort of an extreme calm where things don't seem to matter as much. The lethargy and most of the drowsiness lessen after a few days. Also, I think the chances are good that your anxiety will get even better if you increase the dose, but the lethargy will also increase. Lastly, I think it is safe to work out while taking a tranquilizer as long as you realize they may cause dizziness and drowsiness. You should definitely use a spotter for any activity that usually requires them.

The drowsiness etc. generally goes away pretty quickly. Once it does, I've found that, for some reason, 1 mg in the AM is best (for me) for anxiety (instead of divided doses). This is a pretty standard, "low end" dose. Of course, if you quit it, you should cut down gradually.

Exercise is almost always helpful, and I've had no problem with working out while on benzos. Just take it easy and see how you react, especially while you're getting used to Klonopin. If you're like most people, you won't even notice the Klonopin after a while, just the reduction in anxiety.

i think upping dose would make you more lethargic and more apathetic. also anything over .75mg/day effected my memory.
i find exercise always helps to some degree.

good luck

Hey, yeah, I echo all of the above posts. I'm on .5mg in the a.m then another .5mg in the p.m.
At first I felt sedated a little, then sort of low in energy, after 2 weeks it had gone. My anxiety is pretty much none-existant at that dose and I've not had to change it at all. I work out 3-4 times per week, which also helps my GAD! So give yourself a week or two to adjust and exercise away!!!! Good luck!
