Lactating on Thorazine .....

Posted by Maxime on November 28, 2003, at 21:15:15

Hello. I started taking Thorazine a few weeks ago for sleep. It helped. Plus it was also acting as a really good mood stabiliser for my bipolar (an unexpected result). But then my breast started to hurt a lot and they seemed bigger and then I started to lactate. Needless to say I have stopped the Thorazine.

Has anyone else have this happen to them or am I a real freak (I think I am one anyway, but that is another story)?

You might be a freak (:-)), Maxime, but it wouldn't be because you began to lactate while taking Thorazine. It is a recognized side effect known as galactorrhea, and is due to the increase in the secretion of prolactin that accompanies the use of the older antipsychotics. Even Risperdal can have this effect. Seroquel and Zyprexa are two antipsychotics with a reduced potential to produce galactorrhea.

Thanks Scott. And yeah, lactating aside I think I am probably still a freak! LoL!
