went to the doc and he pushed the Effexor to 300mg and told me to take Zyprexa ... seeing as I'm refusing to take the Seroquel ... are there any side effects I should be aware of?
btw the zyprexa is only 5mg so not for full blown psychotic episodes ... just visual crap and depersonalization.
Thanks

Hi:
I've been on 5 mg. Zyprexa along with other meds. for my Bipolar quite a while now.
In my personal experience, this med. is VERY good med. for my rapid-cycler and rage/anger part of my Bp symptoms. At the beginning, I felt a bit 'zombi' feeling even with just 2.5 mg., but went away after one or two weeks later. Six months later, I went 5 mg. Zyprexa and on this ever since.
For me, I have no complain about Zyprexa, so to speak, 'side-effect/adverse effect,' however this med. Zyprexa is notorious for 'Weight Gain' that I don't have. Everyone reacts differently on different med., then there are a lot of 'quizzes' to ask, ... but you need to be 'positive' on this med., Zyprexa because I believe you need some form of atypical med. for your condition.
Good Luck!!!

> HappyGirlThanks for the answer. I still haven't decided to take it or not ... I'm waiting for the weekend anyhow because I'm afraid of funky side effects happening at work. I'm not too worried about the weight gain ... I believe seroquel and effexor do that too and when I took both ... I don't know why but even though I kept eating and eating I' was droping a pound a week ... I think it had something to do with the night sweats. I would wake up soaked from head to toe from it.

Hi:
One thing I know about atypical meds. is that Seroquel is one of the weakest atypical med., then most of times it is for 'sleeping well,' rather than for 'manic' related problems. On the otherhand, Zyprexa is 'A King of atypical' although some of people is critical, because of 'weight issue.'
Also, a newer form of atypical med. 'Abilify' is a good med., but there is a problem 'insomnia' to deal with.
In regard to 'night sweat,' it might be related to 'med. combo.' you've been on, ... but it's hard to say, ... 'weight losing/drop' is honestly, I never heard. More often, the hearing is 'weight gain,' because most of psycho. meds. have 'weight issues.' Probably, Effexor might be doing, ... the best bet is a med. that does not cause 'sweat' during sleep. But, I rarely sweat even during hot summer days, then it might be 'your sweat gland,' not med. induced, but I have no clue to say for sure.
