Appetite

Posted by Laree on January 4, 2004, at 14:10:48

Lately I've had a very suppressed appetite. This is pretty unusually for me; I have always liked food! haha...but lately it seems that I don't notice until my body tells me (ie: stomach rumbling, fatigue, etc.) that I need to eat. And when it does give signal, I usually can't think of anything (solid) I could get down. Has anyone else experienced this on Lexapro and/or Wellbutrin? I am going to have to buy a new blender for my dorm room from the looks of it...haha... Thanks!

man, i have the same problem with zoloft and lamictal, so i don't know if it's just an ssri thing, or if for some of us these drugs just kill the hunger signal. i too feel queasy at the thought of most foods, especially in the first part of the day. i had the same problem on celexa. my weight is so low it is starting to scare me, even though i guess this is a problem most young women would kill for! when do you take your meds--am or pm? i wonder if that could modify these effects at all. i take zoloft in the morning with half of my lamictal, then the other half at night. i think i'm going to put in a call to my doc to see what he thinks.
i'll let you know. =)

how long have you been on Lex. I am at almost two weeks and only the last couple have I noticed that my appetite is improving. I don't like not having an appetite either. However, it could also be the depression. Hang in there.

I wrote a post about lamictal and decreased appetite last week. I am experiencing the exact same thing. I am also on Geodon and Celexa. The very thought of food makes me feel queasy, yet I have to take the Geodon on a full stomach, so I'm having difficulty absorbing the med.

I gained approximately 50 pounds on Zyprexa, so this is not entirely unwelcome, but I have lost 20 of those pounds since starting lamictal. I guess I will worry about this when I reach my goal weight.

Keep us posted on what your doc says...if he/she has ever heard of this before.

TIA and take care...
Girl

I've been on 10 mg of Lex for 16 days now. My appetite disappeared completely for the first week, food just didn't sound good. I've lost several lbs. on this drug. Some days I can eat, others I can't swallow much. Although, it seems to be getting a bit better and my appetite is slowly coming back.
