Positve thoughts?

What's the best drug out there to eliminate negative anxious thoughts and promote more positive mood lifting thoughts?

Any ideas?

SSRI's seem to be the best drugs for making the glass seem half full. Dopaminergics can do the same thing, but often lift mood through other means.

Most of those are illegal... :)

I would look to MAOIs (Nardil, etc.) or SSRIs (Paxil, etc.) for the effects you describe.

Jon :)

Hi jms600,

In the past Prozac did wonders for me. It helped me to have a much more positive attitude, and eliminated a huge portion of my depression. I'm now taking Lexapro. I've had fairly good results with it so far. Once again my depression is fading. I'm having to increase to 20 mg for anxiety, but it's been very helpful in promoting positive thinking.

You might want to look in to Paxil. A lot of people have had wonderful results with it. (I didn't care for it, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for you.) Good luck in finding the right medication!

K.

Effexor did the trick for me. Prior to that I would have uncontrolable negative thoughts that would stream through my mind. Effexor has given me far more control to say 'no' to things I don't want to think about. I find it muc easier to be positive now.
