I currently take 300 mgs of Wellbutrin and .5 of Klonopin. Effexor caused an increased urge to drink and smoke cigs. So, I am tapering off. The same thing happened with Paxil. Other meds that didn't work out: Zoloft, Pamelor, I can't recall th rest. The SSRI's are for anxiety.
My pdoc was tring to find an alternative for the Klonopin, which has worked fine with a higher dose in the past with a previous doc. It worked
so well that I thought I'd be ok without it. I was wrong and the old doc retired, so I got a new one.New new doc hates to prescribe Klonopin, so he wants to try every drug out on me like I am some kind of science experiment. Side effects from SSRI's affect my quality of life and I hate it! How can I convince this man that I want what worked in the past if he is so against the Klonopin?

Hi Anxiety66,
You might want to start looking for another pdoc. Chances are high that your pdoc has prescribed Klonopin to someone in the past and he/she had a horrible experience with it and blamed your pdoc. This can cause a pdoc to stop prescribing certain meds. (Example: A pdoc I saw in the past prescribe Xanax to someone. They took it for several months and stopped taking it suddenly. The withdrawl caused a seizure and the patient blamed the pdoc for it. Now, that pdoc will never prescribe Xanax to anyone for any reason.)
Try to find a friend, family member or co-worker who is taking Klonopin and get a referral to see their pdoc.
