Celexa- Anyone take 80 mg?

Posted by Jeffrey on March 6, 2004, at 13:07:16

Hi,

I have lingering anxiety and low level depression occuring after a health risk to my baby that will not be resolved. I am on Effexor XR 150 mg (after trying up to 300 mg and moving down to 150 mg) because I had a partial response and then began Celexa, increasing to 60 mg. I had a much more significant response to the Celexa I take clonazapam as needed (every day!).

I am thinking about raising the Celexa to 70-80 mg and also decreasing the Effexor (in stages). Does this make sense? Is anyone on a high dose of Celexa?
I have had no adverse side effects other than sexually related.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Jeffrey

I take 60 mg now. Thats the dose that works best for me. I tried 80 mg for a while, it was nice at first, but then I started feeling over medicated.

I realy liked celexa when I started taking it, wanting to increase all the time. Made me happy each time till I got up to 80.

I was on 80 for about three years. Saw the most improvement just after going from 60 to 80 mg. My mood has since deteriorated. After trying 100 mg., we (my doc and I) have decided to try other meds. I didn't notice any additional side effects in going from 60 to 80 or 100.

Thanks for your reply.
Did you augment at all with Celexa? What was your diagnosis? How long was Celexa effective? How effective was it? (ie comlpete remission, partial response) I hope your mood improves.
Best wishes, Jeffrey

Hi,

My diagnosis is treatment resistant recurrant major depression. I guess I would say I had a partial response to Celexa at 80 mg. We tried various augmentation strategies (Wellbutrin, Remeron, Strattera) with little or no affect. I have been on Lexapro for about 6 weeks now and have not noticed any changes.

I had been on the Celexa for over three years and I would say I had a very limited response for about two years. Next step is probably going to be an MAOI or ECT. I have had both before and I am not looking forward to either prospect.

Hope this info helps!

Josh

Josh,
Thanks for your response. Good luck feeling better. Hang in there. I understand the frustrated feeling. Best regards, Jeffrey

Hi,

Tried Ritalin with Prozac a while back. Made me so tired I couldn't stay on it. I am on Adderall now. Does not seem to help my mood but it does increase my energy level a little.
