Difficult Situation - Wellbutrin-induced Insomnia

Posted by bipolarspectrum on March 13, 2004, at 5:37:10

Hi,
I'm on wellbutrin and its improving my mood and energy... However, I'm having difficulty staying asleep!! But, heres the twist, I can't tolerate the anti-psychotics.. Clonazepam is ok, but I would rather not use it long-term... Any other ideas??

Have you tryed Desipramine ? I took 5mg ( like a baby dose) last night ,I slept 9 hours and feel very rested this morning and able to focus for 3 hours non-stop searching and reading., and also able to reply the post.
I have been taken addrall , even I was able to focus on addrall , but I don't like it at all, so I stoped a week ago.
First dose of Desipramine did wonder for me. I suppose to take 10 mg, but I'm very meds sensitive, so I took 5mg instead last night. I like it so far.
I'm not Bi-polor, I think I'm depression induced ADD.

Hello again
I didn't sleep well on second day of desipramine . I constantly wake up last night . I don't understand why I slept well on first day. My appology for the previous post.
By the way. I think not taking Klonopin is a very good idea. I have been on it for more than 5 years. I got dependency on it both mentally and physically, though I taped off to 1-1.5mg per day, but I think I have to be on this dose for a long time to tape off even lower dose.

I took 150 xr twice a day and found I had trouble sleeping until I started taking the second dose in early to mid afternoon rather than in the evening. If you haven't done it already try playing with the timing of your dose before adding something new.

Hi Bipolarspectrum,

Try taking Clonazepam short-term until your body adjusts to the Wellbutrin. Keep in mind that most prescription sleeping meds (Sonata being an example) are not meant to be taken long term.

Lorazepam might be one to try. You could also use Tylenol PM. Benedryl seems to help some people sleep. Trazedone works well for some people, but don't stop taking it cold turkey...the withdrawl symptoms are very unpleasant.

I'm wishing you many nights of uninterrupted sleep.

K.
