Hi Pandabear,
Trazodone is an antidepressant. I take it (and sometimes Ambien) at night to help me sleep. I'm also on Paxil for depression and anxiety.
My doctor said Trazodone is okay to take every night. I'm only supposed to take Ambien on nights that I absolutely am wide awake for two or more hours.
I used to take Amitryptyline (another antidepressant) but despite increased doses it didn't make me sleep. So she switched me to Trazodone four months ago. I don't seem to have any side effects.

Hi Pandabear,
Obviously you'll be hoping to hear from someone taking trazodone in a dose high enough to treat things other than sleep problems, but I also thought I'd mention that I take it occasionally for that reason (25 to 50 mgs) and really like it. As long as I don't wait until too late at night (morning I should say, like...now??). If I take it too late and won't be able to sleep in I'm sometimes groggy. But anyway despite the dose that's supposedly too low to dent depression, I swear I often do feel a bit of that effect the next day. Docs say that's just due to sleeping better, but it feels like more to me. Anyway, good luck!
