Another Lexapro newbie

Posted by scarlet on March 23, 2004, at 21:36:38

Hello- I just wanted to thank everyone who's posted here on Lexapro. I've been taking 10mg for 5 weeks now...the first two weeks were awful and I wish I had found this site sooner. At this point, however, I've seen a HUGE drop in my OCD, anxiety, and depression. Unfortunately, I'm still waking up every day at 4am. My doctor said sometimes it can take up to 2 months to get sleep regulated but to hang in there. Any comments from those of you out there?
Thanks much,
Scarlet

Hi Scarlet,

It's wonderful to hear that the Lexapro is helping you so much. I've been on 15 mgs of Lex for about 3 1/2 months. It took about 9 weeks before I was sleeping well again.

What time do you take your Lexapro at? Sometimes that can make a huge difference. You might also want to try taking Tylenol PM when you wake up at 4 am. It will probably put you right back to sleep.

Best of Luck
K.

K, Thanks for your response. The first two weeks I took the Lexapro in the morning- I was wide awake at 4am every night. On my doc's recommendation I switched to taking it at bedtime- couldn't wake up in the morning for the life of me. I would turn off my alarm without even realizing it had sounded. So about a week ago I switched to taking it at dinner time (5ish). Now I'm back to awaking at 4am. I'm not as crazed and wide awake as I was when I took it in the morning but it's still frustrating. It's my first AD though and as frustrating as the sleep issue is, I've had so much success (so far at least) in other areas that I'm determined to make it work.

Hi Scarlet,

I think your insomnia will go away as time passes. For me it took 5-6 weeks before I could sleep through the night again. I take mine at 10:00 pm and still have a little bit of troulbe getting up, but it's not as bad as it used to be. It's awesome that you're so determined to make this work, I think having a great attitude can definately bring you success!

K
