I know I've posted about this before, but am I the only one that uses Propranolol (beta blocker)? It's not meant for depression, but it does wonders for anxiety and panic. I wonder if it's conflicting with anything else I'm taking. My doc doesn't seem to know much about it and seemed surprised that it works (I got the prescription from a different doctor).

Hi:
In my knowledge, this med.,Propranolol(beta blocker) is used for many different reasons, such as your case, 'Anxiety and panic,' for this reason, this med. might be better than official med., Anxiety med. 'Buspar.'
However, one MAIN thing you need to concern is this med., Propranolol can NOT be used with Lithium, because it makes terrible dizziness due to 'low blood pressure' effect.

My understanding is that beta blockers only help "performance anxiety." In other words, if you start shaking and sweating before a stressful event, the beta blocker will cover you. Is this why you're on them or do you suffer from GAD?

Proponol helps with all symptoms of anxiety/panick does not help with depression if anything it has cns depressive affect.... but if you are happy with the results then stick with it... but get another med for your depression and you will flying..
Best of luck to you

I take lithium and propranolol. In my case I take it for the tremors the lithium causes. It is a good anti-anxiety med too. I was able to cut out one dose of klonopin since I have been on it. My blood pressure is fine. They say one has to be careful if on proventil or just asthmatic because it can cause a bronchospasm. I am on proventil with no ill effects. terrics

I suffer from GAD and anxiety/depression. It helps the GAD on the really bad days. Sort of makes me a zombie, but it's better than GAD. I take Lexapro and Ativan for other problems.

Hmmm. I only take 10 mg, and it will last me several hours and only take it as needed. I also take Ativan, but when I take propranolol, I don't need the Ativan. Strange. I guess that stuff affects everyone differently. When I take 10 mg of P, I still have a littel anxiety, but it gets rid of the physical manifestations like the severe pain and and weight in/on my chest, nausea and the butterflies in my stomach, which in themselves snowball my anxiety so, in the end, my anxiety is less. Sorry if that's not helpful to you.
