started remeron and have put 10 lbs on a week....

Posted by KindGirl on April 13, 2004, at 1:10:19

Hi everyone,
I don't usually post here, and I did see a thread on remeron in general...BUT...I am turning into a pig!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stop eating. I am exercising every day and still my clothes are getting tighter and tighter. I try to eat fruit and good stuff, but I crave carbs, chocolate (easter didn't help!).

HELP! Has anyone found ANYTHING to help this? I am on 30 mg and the pdoc is on vacation but seemed to hope that going up to 45 mg might lessen this affect. I have been on it now about 6 weeks and know I have put on at least ten pounds and I really can't afford it.

I have tried effexor and lexapro and this drug, remeron, helps me sleep and helps me in general but I am going to become one of those people who the paramedics have to cut out a side of the house for if I don't stop eating soon. HELP!!!!

Hi KindGirl,

Unfortunately increased appetite & carb cravings are common side effects of Remeron. I'm one of the lucky people who don't get it, so I don't know much about getting rid of the problem, although it does subside for most people. I have heard that using the H2 blocker Zantac antacid can counter it, but I haven't tried it myself.

Cheers,
Panda.

I put on weight just like that when I started Remeron and it floated off all by itself when I quit the drug (20 pounds and I didn't even try) but I found that dieting was doubly difficult while I was still on the Remeron

Remeron has some side effects that decrease as the dose increases. That's why your doc wants you to go up to 45mg.
