Question about Wellbutrin

Posted by sams0n on April 26, 2004, at 17:35:16

I have been presribed wellbutrin for anxiety and mild depression. I have been taking 150mg of the XL version for 28 days. It has helped me to concentrate better but has caused me to feel very depressed and it has greatly reduced my motivation to get my schoolwork done. Before taking this drug I did not really feel depressed and I had plenty of motivation. Anyway, should I expect this symptom to go away, since it is an antidepressant why is it causing increased depression? At what point should I stop taking this drug because of these symptoms. Thank you very much for your time.

Hi.

Wellbutrin is probably not the right drug for you. It made me more depressed too on the four occasions that I tried it. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is really not an antidepressant. It is a molecule that, for most people, produces an antidepressant effect. For some, however, it has the opposite effect. To my knoweledge, this is true of each and every drug (molecule) currently classified as an antidepressant. For some people, Wellbutrin also has the property of improving their symptoms of ADD. Have you ever looked into that?
