Both it and Methylphenidate-Ritilin work on DA and NE. Wellbutrin i think indirectly effects it, compared to direct methylphenidate, maybe why it has a slow onset. At 400mg i heard it does have some stimulant activity, doing trials.
But a high doses make me irrtible compared to Ritilin, high doses of ritilin usally cause euphoria because of the excess dopamine blockade.
IF any one know the mechanism of action of bupropion and know if its indirect or not please tell me.
But finally, we are back with the question, Is wellbutrin a psychostimulant?
Thanks

Wellbutrin is not designated a psychostimulant, but it is an activating antidepressant. It's also used sometimes in the treatment of ADD as an alternative to the stimulants. It's also known by another name, Zyban, which is used to help with smoking cessation. It is *stimulating* but it is not a stimulant like Adderall and Ritalin. It's mode of action is different. It is stimulating, but a lot of ADs are that way b/c they're ADs. I think that Effexor is activating like Wellbutrin, as are others, for example.

registration is free-- check out this article about antidepressants including bupropion and how it affects dopamine.

If I remember correctly, wellbutrin blocks the re-uptake of dopamine and methylphenidate stimulates the production of dopamine. However, IANAP (I am not a psychopharmacologist), so someone out there probably knows much better than me.
My response to both is similar to yours. I couldn't handle wellbutrin ... in fact, it made me psychotic (as in near-uncontrollable, unprovoked rages). Methylpheindate, on the other hand, boosted my mood when used with nortriptyline ... at the same time, it didn't make me any more anxious than I already am and didn't interfere with the effect klonopin has on me.

Yea wellbutrin is a pain in the ass sometimes. I do know that Methylphenidate dosent stimulate dopamine release, but rather blocks the reuptake, stimualating dopamine is Amphetamine's job.
But both drugs have similar effects. Ritilin to me is ok at the moderate doses, but i cant not stand low doses, ZOOOMBIED out. It makes me in a horrible mood, i mean like I took a hit of Thorazine or something.
Same to amphetamine, but at moderate doses, like 45-60mg it doesnt have any zombie effect, actually i feel just like myself, and things move quicker, as in tasks.
I know and researched that low doses of Psychostimulants slow the nerve inpulse in the brain, lets say amphetamine, it releases dopamine when it kicks in, then stops, and slows impules of dopamine flow, thats why i feel like shit. High doses do the opposite, it INcreases all nerve impulses, and keep going, i'm in a better mood at these doses because i have faster dopamine impulses.
Just some useless news
Anymore info, tell me

I dunno -- of everything I've read, if it doesn't say methylphenidate is **related** to amphetamine, it out-right says methylphenidate is a type of amphetamine. One source said that amphetamine-like CNS stimulants can:
1) cause the release of dopamine from axon terminals.
2) block dopamine reuptake.
3) inhibit the storage of dopamine in vesicles.
4) inhibit the destruction of dopamine by enzymes.but the thing most emphasize for both is (1).
Whatever the verdict, different meds in the same class can have widely different effects across individuals. SSRIs apparently work for a lot of people, but each one has a different negative effect on me of varying intensities. YMMV
