Hi guys, does anyone know of any cold and flu drugs that don't interact with SSRIs (citalopram to be specific)? I have a cold that's absolutely killing me, but was told to stay away from pseudoephedrine :(

Only from personal experience, pseudoephedrine shouldn't cause any problems with Celexa. I started Celexa this past July 3rd and occasionally take Zyrtec-D for allergies and it contains pseudoephedrine as an ingredient. Do be careful about dextromethorphan (hopefully I spelled it right), which I believe is an active ingredient in many OTC cough/cold remedies. Combining the two (dextromethorphan + SSRI) could trigger the serotonin syndrome. Unless uncontrolled hypertension is an issue for you, pseudoephedrine should be "safe". Hope this helps.

No, it's the MAOIs that can't be used with pseudoephedrine. I'm not aware of any reason you couldn't take pseudoephedrine while on an SSRI and feel that whoever gave you that advice is perhaps confusingly thinking of the MAOI warning.Todd
