Effexor for Hot Flashes

Posted by krc on August 5, 2004, at 18:38:11

My obgyn is suggesting effexor for hot flashes @37.5 per day for 1 week, then increase to 75mg per day if needed. Has anyone had any experience with using it for this purpose. Reading all the withdrawal side effects is causing me some concern...however, perhaps those are due to the higher doses. thx

I have been on 37.5 mg and 75 mg. of Effexor but it did not stop my hot flashes. Going off of Effexor can be quite difficult as well. Maybe it will help you but it is not without risk.

"I have been weaned off the HRT after many years and new studies show several antidepressant drugs work well for the hot flashes with effexor being the best - studies show relief in 1 week, the next best one was paxil and then fluoxetine" i think the key here is that they use smaller doses for controlling hot flashes that if taking for mental health problems...but the side effects I've been reading here as scary" thx for your response...kc
