I have bpd and atypical depression - with extreme anxiety. So much social phobia I gave up driving years ago. Used to take benzos but haven't been able to find a pd in this area who will prescribe them.
Instead, I've tried neurotin, depakote, and a host of others. Since I also have high blood pressure - in part due to the weight gain caused by alcohol abuse and past drugs like serazone and wellbutrin - the doc wants to try inderal. I've given up on taking anything for depression due to all the side effects with anti-depressants.
After a week of inderal (10mgs once a day) I find it much better than neurotin but have noticed a sudden weight gain of about 3-5lbs. This surprised me since I seem to be eating less. Anyone else experience weight gain with Inderal?

Most likely & probably will go away.

Cheers,

I take 10mgs once a day. It is quite sedating but that gets better over time. I take it in the evening so I sleep through the initial sedation. Good for vivid dreaming.
I miss the benzos but this is a decent alternative. Besides, I got hooked on ativan and librium and it took months to finally get off them.
I find inderal much preferable to neurotin which seemed to calm yet made me edgy at the same time - like I was going in two directions at once. Inderal is more straight-forward, no-nonsense, relaxing without knocking me out.
Hope the weight gain is just water retention as my body adjusts to the new med.

hey, i just started inderal and was warned about retaining water -- but i'm also urinating more. i'm trying to drink more water just in case it's water retention -- i've always heard drinking more helps.
i find that i'm also not eating as much, i don't feel as hungry. do you feel the same?

On the inderal I'm not as hungry or overeating. I felt a little bloated by the second day, so perhaps the weight gain is just water retention.
Although it's slowed me down, I've noticed I get more done. It enables me to focus and be more in the moment.

Hmm, I've noticed that I'm focusing more too. I attributed that to the effexor, which I started at the same time. Maybe I'm wrong and could do well on one med.

So what doses are you on? and what side affects you get first few days??? i am so thinking about trying it, i have it here but am afraid ... i dont know why, maybe its got s oemthing to do with it being a heart med !! i dunno... i have heared all good things about it for anxiety, and i suppose if it does or i do start to feel depressed i can always add effexor or something cus inderal will stop the racing heart (side affect i get from ssri's and snri's etc) just need some more info.. ?
thanks
