Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of depression and the inflammatory process. I've read a few articles on the internet, but I haven't dug into Pubmed yet. The implications for heart disease are scary. Anyway, several years ago I had a course of alpha interferon at a dose much lower than that used to treat hepatitis. Although I've had bad mood and anxiety problems at a lot of different times during my life, I had particularly bad anxiety and depression kick in around the time of the interferon treatment. Made sense at the time given the stress. But I'm wondering if the IF treatment might have kicked off some sort of immune process that has lasted much longer than the actual treatment and is still contributing to depression.
Maybe I'm completely off base - maybe immune effects from IF should subside once you stop it. But I can't help but wonder if we're missing something in my treatment. I'm going to also bring this up to my pdoc and see if she has any thoughts.
What treatments would be immune modulating? Besides fish oil? SJW didn't help me. I'll ask on the alternative board as well.
